Upper Animas
This year TKS is proud to offer Upper Animas trips in conjunction with Four Corner Whitewater. Raft or kayak the Upper Animas, which has some of the most continuous and difficult whitewater in the United States. You will journey into a completely roadless portion of the San Juan National Forest, with stunning scenery and 14,000 foot peaks nearby. Save some energy for story telling on the train ride at the end of the afternoon.
Kayakers must have a combat roll and pass our on-water evaluation in Telluride before going to the Animas. Rafters should have above average fitness and stamina, as well as strong swimming skills and previous whitewater rafting experience. During high water in May and early June this is especially important as we will likely be portaging at least one rapid (you must be able to help carry the boat). We reserve the right to move participants to the Middle Upper trip based on flows or skill/fitness levels of participants.
No other river in Colorado can match the scenery and wilderness character that is found on the Upper Animas. This trip can be completed in one long day, though to trully enjoy the canyon we reccomend the overnight trip. Come and see for yourself or watch the video!
Telluride Kayak school will provide transportation from Telluride and our own expert saftey kayaker/ kayak guide to ensure your safety.
